JAGUAR
E Type Coupé
When you think of an English car, it is impossible not to imagine it in green. The wealthy gentleman who ordered it from Jaguar in New York in 1961, however, chose a modern version of the classic pastel “British racing green,” opting for the metallic variant called “opalescent dark green.” These were among the first metallic colors, and the “opalescent” designation began to attract the attention of those who wanted to stand out. In fact, most E-types in those years were ordered in white or pastel red.
Produced in December 1961, this car is a first series, referred to by enthusiasts as the “flat floor” due to the flat shape of its floors, a feature that was modified in February 1962.
Found in 2020 in Texas, it belonged for almost its entire history to Mr. Murrell Townsend, a resident of Harwood, Dallas. According to the documents found in the car and its original license plate, he used it until 1987, after which he parked it in the garage of his company specializing in electric motors.
The car, likely stopped due to some mechanical problems, was in incredibly original condition, and almost intact in all its parts.
During the restoration that began at the end of 2022, many original parts were preserved, including the aluminum central console, which in the first cars had a different texture and, despite being over 60 years old, was in excellent condition.
The over year and a half of work has been thoroughly documented with detailed photos, and there is comprehensive documentation relating to the work and spare parts purchased.
The particularity and refinement of the color combination, the restoration carried out with the utmost respect for originality, the charm of a design that has never gone unnoticed, and the fact that it is one of the first 500 E-types produced, make this Jaguar an interesting collector’s item as well as an iconic sports car capable of providing unique driving sensations.
